While it may be the "unofficial" soundtrack, So Frenchy So Chic has become synonymous with the film festival with which it is unofficially but inextricably associated.
As compilations have been released in the lead-up to the annual French film festival for the past several years, it is both a fanfare announcing its advent, and a musical evocation of the culture from which the music is selected.
However, there is nothing clichéd about the pieces in this compilation. This reviewer heartily agrees with a note on the slip cover: "Forget the clichés of baguettes and berets, here are 34 songs fresh from the eclectic airwaves of France. Spread the love. Until next year".
In the meantime, enjoy this marvellous collection, and don't be surprised if you feel tempted to pull previous years' compilations from the shelf, to enjoy again, and again.
