Sex and the City 2

First of all, it must be said that it's a refreshing change to see the whole gamut of studio musicians listed in the CD booklet.

As the title indicates, and unlike previous CDs released in association with Sex And The City 1, this CD isn't a compilation of contemporary songs used in the film, with the occasional original piece. Instead, this recording is a comprehensive presentation of the generous amount of original music scored for the film.

Given the film's storyline, the opening track, and many thereafter, feature a gently persuasive middle-eastern percussive propulsion: on some occasions gently persuasive, and at other times, much more prominent and sensual. Some tracks sound more "authentically" middle eastern, while others sound more akin to the arabic lounge music that has, quite rightly become increasingly popular over the past decade or so.

Interestingly, there are also a couple of tunes that sound heavily influenced by Irish folk tunes, as well as one that has faint hints of Maurice Jarre's magnificent main theme from Lawrence of Arabia.

It is important to be mindful of what the tuneful music this recording has to offer, irrespective of the film.
