My Year Without Sex

Sarah Watt's quirky 2009 comedy-drama My Year Without Sex was greatly enhanced by the selection of tunes included in the film. In the liner notes, writer/director Watt explains that many of the songs were selected as they were the types of songs that one of her characters - Ross (played by Matt Day) - would listen to.
Many of the pieces are country-rock styled tunes - earthy, and entirely non-pretentious. You can imagine hearing these songs being played in garages around Melbourne on a weekend afternoon, as men like Ross tinker with their cars.
In addition to being entertaining for many, this soundtrack is also of interest to filmmakers, who want to explore how the selection of licensed music contributes to the character of a film.
