Moviebrass

This CD should go a long way in dispelling the myth that brass music is all about marching bands and fanfare.
Trumpeter Marco Pierobon, who has arranged all the pieces included in this compilation has exploited every nuance of the ensemble, (of which he is a part). There are quiet moments, quiet and intense moments, broad, legato phrases and, of course, sparing use of the customary brass bravado. This makes for a well-rounded recording.
In the West Side Story Suite, Bernstein's sassy, modern American music lends itself well to the sultry intonations of Pierobon's brass arrangement.
If you're familiar with the animated TV series The Simpsons, you'll be aware that Danny Elfman's closing credits theme has occasionally been arranged throughout the series, to match the content of specific episodes (for instance, there's a Tito Puente-styled theme, and a very clever theme in the style of Phillip Glass). Fans of the show will be delighted to see that the Simpsons theme has been included.
Even the manga series Lupin is represented here, with the inclusion of the theme from Lupin III. Don't be deterred if you aren't familiar with the Cartoon Network's adaptation of this Japanese comic book: it is actually a most charming little piece of music!
Devotees of brass music will no doubt love this compilation. But I'd also urge fans of broadway, Bernstein and those who enjoy listening to a bright, breezy cd, to take a look at this CD.
