Mary and Max
Mary and Max was one of the best films of 2009. In addition to Adam Elliot's charming and distinctive animation, is the collection of music featured in the soundtrack.
Some of it is camp evocation of 1970's suburbia (Bert Kaemfert's Swinging Safari), some of it is sublime (Zadok the Priest), and all of it makes for entertaining listening.
Pink Martini's cover of Que Sera, Sera is especially of note. It is a feat of great musicianship: offering a completely different, ever-so-slightly unhinged take on this song rather than Doris Day's well-known but rather insipid version.
In addition to the eclectic array of tunes, the album art - a simple picture of our protagonist Max - is also delightful.
