The Film Music of Thomas Newman

Thomas Newman has managed to carve out a respectable career independent of the work of his father, Alfred Newman, also a film music composer.
Although he has become more famous in recent years for having penned the scores to films such as American Beauty (who can forget the poetry of the “Plastic Bag Theme”) and The Shawshank Redemption, as well as the distinctive theme tune for the TV series Six Feet Under, Newman’s catalogue dates back to the eighties, with films such as Desperately Seeking Susan, and cult vampire movie, The Lost Boys.
This collection focuses on works from the mid-90’s onwards from a diverse range of films including The Shawshank Redemption, Little Women, Finding Nemo and Lemony Snicket’s: A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Having heard how his music has evolved over the years, it is evident that Newman has decades more work to produce, which is great news for film-going audiences.
