Cosi

A considerable amount of time has lapsed between viewing the film Cosi, and listening to the soundtrack.Cosi was made somewhat at the tail-end of a spate of quite charming Australian films, such as Muriel's Wedding, Strictly Ballroom, and the like. Like those films, Cosi was engaging fare.
The soundtrack begins, naturally enough, with the overture to the opera Cosi fan Tutte, from which the film takes its title.
Some of the pieces are outright (and intentionally) comical: one can't help but smile at the snippet of Pamela Rabe's ironically underwhelming rendition of "I'm So Excited", or Colin Hayes's irreverent introduction to The Ride Of The Valkyries.
But there are some surprises on this disc: notably, Toni Colette's covers of songs luke Don't Dream It's Over.
Perhaps unbeknown to many, Collette has been involved in a band in the past. Not having heard the band, and having forgotten about her performance in this film, I was surprised to hear how lovely her renditions are.
There are also original music cues included in this compilation, that were composed by Stephen Endelman, who also arranged, orchestrated and conducted the other music for the soundtrack. His pieces are simply beautiful.
