This soundtrack commences with a rather lovely, if not awe-inspiring rendition of Beliini's Casta Diva by Scottish Soprano Jeni Bern, before drifting gently into Guy Farley's pleasing original music.
Director Sean Ellis worked closely with the British composer, whom he states, in the liner notes, approached the project with great enthusiasm.
Ellis seems to have had a strong idea of how he wanted the music to work: sometimes by intensifying what we see on screen, and at other times by providing a counterpoint.
Farley's music, often lead by piano chords, with sustained strings in the background, is melodic, and at times, quite beautiful.
Unfortunately, as many of the tracks are brief, it leaves one wanting a theme to be more fully developed. There are a few screen music composers who can do little more than score a number of brief musical cues. Farley is clearly a better musician than that, and as such, perhaps he might, one day, consider developing his film music into orchestral suites.
In the meantime, we have his soundtracks to enjoy.
