Balibo
Lisa Gerrard is a multi-skilled musician. An accomplished singer and performer, she has also contributed to the scores of many high profile films, such as The Insider, Constantine, Mission Impossible 2, Black Hawk Down, and, the epic soundtrack to Gladiator (for which she received both a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination).
Unfortunately, for those of us interested in the motivations and methods of the soundtrack composer, there are no notes provided by Gerard in the liner notes, even though there is a Director and Writer's statement by Robert Connolly. This is certainly useful (and indeed interesting), but it would have been nice to have had more than a career blurb about the soundtrack's composer.
Nevertheless, this is a small issue in an otherwise fine soundtrack. Gerrard has managed to devise a soundtrack that enhances the dramatic tones of the film, as well as
being a rewarding listening experience in its own right.
The traditional music (such as the ensemble piece that begins the soundtrack), is fabulous.
