Armand Amar - Retrospective (2-CD Set)

Born in Jerusalem in 1953, Armand Amar was reared in Morocco, before moving to France, where he has established an impressive career as a Composer.
It was, in many respects, an unintentional journey, which began many years ago when he worked as the musical advisor on Tony Gatlif's rich Romani feature: Latcho Drom.
This generous collection includes music from his most famous scores, including The Maiden and The Wolves, The First Cry, and, perhaps best known in Australia, Earth From Above.
One of the things that characterises the music of Amar, is his use of exotic instruments: congas, tablas and the zarb, for example, lend their distinctive sounds to his music.
Amar's music is a delicious blend of world/exotic and classical styles, which will appeal to fans of both genres. Indeed, one needn't have seen any of the films featured in this compilation to enjoy it.
