Survivors - The Complete Collection (S1, S2, S3)

The world is plagued - literally - by a mysterious illness that soon earns the moniker "the death", due to its devastating effect.
Like other countries around the world, Britain's population has been decimated. Those who survive an encounter with the flu-like illness, seem to have some degree of immunity.
The remaining population, initially dispersed, gradually form groups. While the series focuses on one particular group, they do encounter other survivors, allowing the audience to see just how diverse the choices are, in group formation and micro-government.
The plague has all but destroyed the lives of many survivors, but for some, the dissolution of society as they knew it, has its rewards: one man is intent on inseminating as many women as possible, supposedly in order to boost the beleaguered population; on the other hand, there are many men jostling for positions of power.
The main character in Series one, is Abby Grant (played by Caroline Seymour). It is a reflection of just how times have changed, that her character was discontinued after the first season, as she was considered to be too headstrong.
Survivors was remade in 2008, and apparently, a second series is being considered.
Though the pace of the original three series is slow by today's standards, it makes ideal late-night viewing, and raises some genuinely interesting moral conundrums (watch for one episode, in which a murder is committed).
Despite being made over thirty years ago, some of the issues are chillingly contemporary, especially in light of the recent swine flu epidemic.
